Funding for military youth projects

A FUND has been set up to give the children of North Yorkshire’s military families the chance to bid for cash to stage community projects.

A total of £10,000 is being made available to enable young people to create projects ranging from music festivals and art initiatives to team building and outdoor education.

Half of the cash has come from a North-East charity Keyfund, with the remainder being supplied by the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association – Forces Help in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council, Catterick Garrison headquarters and the Army Welfare Service.

The fund is available to young people living in Catterick Garrison and the stations of Ripon, Dishforth and Topcliffe.

Young people will have to make presentations to a Keyfund panel, made up of their peers as well as local business and community leaders, to show how their projects will benefit local communities.

More information about Keyfund’s work in North Yorkshire or on how to become involved as a community panel member is available from youth engagement officer James Parkes on 01609 533932.
