Heart girl full of life

Gabrysia Filarowski is full of energy and back home in Leeds – but still faces a wait to see if her latest treatment is working.

The youngster, who is nearly 18 months old, had a heart transplant in July at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

Gabrysia, who is pictured with mother Angela, was born with the rare heart defect, double inlet right ventricle.

She did well following the operation but her antibody levels have increased, raising the chances of rejection.

Doctors have given her a drug never tried on anyone so young to regulate her antibody levels. She is back home in Horsforth while its effects are monitored.

However, latest test results show her antibody levels have halved. She travels to Newcastle for weekly tests to monitor her progress.
