Hooligan's rampage costs him £200
A MAN who wrecked a village community flower display must pay £200 compensation after he was caught on CCTV.
The 21-year-old vandal must also write a letter of apology to Cottingley Business Watch Association after he tipped over and destroyed plant pots and flowers on the Parade in the village on Saturday night.
Police arrested the man within hours of him vandalising the display in Cottingley after he was captured on CCTV.
He fully admitted the offence and was given a conditional caution which compels him to pay the penalty and apologise.
If he fails to do so he will find himself in court for criminal damage. Sergeant Diane Collins, of the Bingley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "I saw first-hand the mess that this individual had made. Hours of local residents time had been put in to this project to enhance the look of the Parade. Mindless vandalism will not be tolerated and this is an example how we will deal with future instances."
The pots were paid for by Cottingley Business Watch Association to add some colour to the village. Volunteers spent hours laying the flowers.
