If you like your rhythms fast, beat it to John o'Groats
Music gets faster the further North you travel, according to a survey of the nation's tastes.
The Welsh love rock, Northerners headbang to heavy metal and the Scots prefer the frenetic beat of happy hardcore.
HMV and Uncut magazine have drawn up a musical map of the United Kingdom.
It reveals that dance music bought at Land's End has an average of 80 beats per minute – rising to 190 beats per minute in John o'Groats.
Regional variations can be partly attributed to the ethnic make-up of a particular area. R&B and hip hop are popular in London, reggae is big in Birmingham and Celtic rock predominates in Scotland and Wales.
An HMV spokesman said: "The history and ethnic mix of an area shapes the music... But the map could soon change because the internet is narrowing the difference between musical tastes."
Yorkshire is classed as bloke rock territory, folk sells well in Doncaster, Sheffield is the home of heavy metal, and Bradford and Leeds are "the international capitals of goth".
