Inventive couple find reward for showing bottle in hard times
A YORKSHIRE couple forced to sell their home to pursue the dream of creating a collapsible and disposable feeding bottle are celebrating success.
Tim Moor, 34, and his wife Georgie, 35, from York, came up with the idea for the bottle six years ago and have endured tough times along the way.
Mr Moor went through several prototypes and, as money became tight while he struggled to get the product right, he and his wife sold their home and moved in with his parents.
The worst was yet to come though as Tim had to sign on and Georgie, a paediatric nurse, started cleaning caravans at the weekend to make ends meet, all while the married couple raised their daughter, Izzy.
But all the hardship proved worthwhile in the end as private investors poured 750,000 into their company G&T Design, equipping Mr Moor with the necessary resources to develop and release the product.
The compact bottle has now gone on sale at Boots stores nationwide for 2.99 and sold out on their website.
The product is a plastic pouch with a collapsible teat attached and comes in packs of four.
It is sterile before the covering cap is removed. The pouch containing the liquid is designed to slowly collapse as the baby feeds so there is no air left, reducing the chances of colic and wind pain. "This invention puts an end for the need for mums to carry around bulky rigid bottles and sterilisation equipment, a godsend for days out or when travelling," said Mr Moor.
Sterilising a bottle away from home can take time and his are ready to use straight away. "Imagine trying to sterilise a bottle whilst on a camping trip, during a long car journey or at a hotel or family event," he said. "This will make life so much easier, especially as parents have so much stuff to take anyway when travelling with a baby."
The Moors live with their daughter Izzy, five, and one-year-old Freddie in Stillington, near York. The disposable bottles are recyclable and BPA (Bisphenol A) free, allaying concerns about the risks of polycarbonates in baby bottles.
