Lady muck: Pig in boots is hot to trot
NEVER mind the glass slippers, this four legged Cinderella is leading the way in a fine set of designer green wellies.
The saddleback piglet was fitted out with the fancy footwear after her bemused owners realised she had a phobia of mud on her trotters.
After her birth, Cinderalla refused to join her siblings as they splashed in the muck and would stand shaking in fear while they trotted about exploring their sty.
But now owners Debbie and Andrew Keeble, who run their farm near Bedale North Yorkshire, say she is unstoppable in her bespoke welly boots.
Made of rubber, the green wellies have no footwell so her trotters slip straight in and Cinders is now trotting around the farm, as happy as, well, a pig in muck.
And because of her unlikely trend-setting, the six-week-old saddleback pig has now been chosen by the farming couple to front their campaign to support the national plight of pig farmers.
The pair, of Thirsk, North Yorkshire, who run an award winning sausage company, were completely baffled by the odd oinker's behaviour when they first let Cinders and her siblings out into the fields.
Mrs Keeble, 40, said: "It was the strangest thing. When the batch ventured away from their mother, Cinders just stood at the edge of her sty shaking while the others explored.
The couple, former pig farmers, have developed the UK's first fair-price scheme for pork, paying 15 per cent more for their meat and passing the difference directly to their farmers and processors. Cinders – who will remain as a farm pet – is now the official mascot for their cause.
"We thought to ourselves, this is no ordinary pig," said Mr Keeble, 42. "And if she's special, why not have her as the mascot for the campaign?"
