Mail deliveries scratched after attacks by elderly 'danger cat'

MAIL deliveries to a house in Leeds have been suspended following a series of attacks on delivery staff by an elderly cat.

In the space of weeks three staff say they have been attacked by the 19-year-old black and white feline.

Royal Mail claims the cat is aggressive and is now refusing to deliver any more post.

Tiger, who spends most of his day asleep, has allegedly attacked three postal workers in the past few weeks.

Owner Tracy Brayshaw, a 43-year-old pharmacy dispenser from Farsley, said the postal staff have complained that Tiger waits for them to deliver letters before getting ready to pounce and chase them down the garden path.

Now Mrs Brayshaw has to travel to her local sorting office to collect her post – because the cat has been deemed a health and safety risk, even though in human terms it is a not very sprightly 93 years old.

She said: "Our vet is amazed he is still alive. If Tiger climbs up a tree he is done in for the rest of the week. I find it really hard to believe. The post has been suspended for two weeks. It was funny at first but it is going a bit far now.

"Tiger is 19 years old. He dribbles when he sleeps and snores and he sleeps for 20 hours a day. Royal Mail said they will not come near the house because the cat is far too dangerous.

"We've had him since he was a kitten when he wandered in off the street. He has never done anything like what they say he has done before,'' she said.

A spokeswoman from Royal Mail said: "We are sorry for the inconvenience to Mrs Brayshaw and, as we want to resume delivery of mail to her address as quickly as possible.

"We're trying to agree a way to do this and avoid our employees suffering further nasty injuries, as has happened three times already."
