Man arrested over body in East Yorkshire field

POLICE investigating the death of a man whose body lay undiscovered in an East Yorkshire field for years have made an arrest.

A 30-year-old Goole man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Frank Garner and is currently in police custody being interviewed by detectives.

Mr Garner's body was found wrapped in black bin bags by a dog walker close to the A614 near East Cowick on the evening of Wednesday 18 June.

The 59-year-old had been reported missing by his family on Saturday, July 30 2005, about five days after being released from hospital.

He was identified by DNA tests and police believe his body had been in the field – about six miles from his – since the time he went missing.

Mr Garner, who lived alone in a council flat in Old Goole, was last seen by his son the day before he was reported missing and officers are appealing for help in piecing together his last movements.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the major incident team on 01377 208989 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
