Memories of key Falklands War battle to be recounted
IT REMAINS a defining moment in the battle to retain the Falklands Islands from the invading Argentine forces.
And to mark the 30th anniversary of the conflict, a Yorkshire-born paratrooper who led the final attack in the Battle of Goose Green will reveal his memories of the key moment in the Falklands War.
Peter Kennedy will give a talk at Harrogate Theatre about the first decisive land battle in the Falklands conflict, with all proceeds going to three military charities, Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion, and The Parachute Regiment Charity. Mr Kennedy grew up in Keighley where many of his relatives still live. However, he now lives in Shrewsbury with his wife, Shirley, who is originally from Haworth. He rose to the rank of Major in a 25-year Army career - with the majority of the time spent with the Parachute Regiment.
The father-of-three, 54, said: “It is only in recent times that I have really thought about what happened, but when you start talking about the conflict all the memories start flooding back. The talk will raise money for causes which are close to my heart, as two of my children have themselves pursued military careers.”
The talk will be held from 7.30pm on May 29, and tickets priced £15 are available on 01423 502116.
