'Missing girl' was walking home
A YOUNG woman reported missing on a stretch of desolate West Yorkshire moorland has been found after a day of intensive searching.
Fears were growing after the teenager, described as being about 19, was spotted by an elderly couple on Rudd Lane, Cragg Vale, heading past Withens Clough Reservoir and towards Stoodley Pike, Todmorden, at 9.20pm on Friday night.
She was wearing just a black mini skirt, hooded top and fishnet tights. Police and Calder Valley Search and Rescue mounted a huge search with a helicopter and dogs and several search parties.
But the girl's mother has now got in touch with police and said she was merely walking home to the Mankinholes area and was back safe and sound on Friday night. The mother called police at 3.30pm on Saturday to say her daughter, who is 17, matched the description issued by police.
The mother said her daughter was wearing wellington boots.
Police officers visited an address in Mankinholes and confirmed the woman's story.
Chief Inspector Mark Allsop, who was leading the investigation said: "We are very relieved that she has finally been found and that she got home safe and well.
"It is very good news that she is not injured or worse still. The help of Calder Valley Rescue Team has been indispensable."
