Mixed-up Brown can't tell his Renée from his Reese
Gordon Brown could face accusations of having suffered a "blonde moment" after he confused Oscar-winning Hollywood stars Reese Witherspoon and Renée Zellweger.
The Prime Minister mixed up the two fair-haired actresses when answering questions in the Commons.
He attempted to pay tribute to Reese Witherspoon, who was in the Palace of Westminster to call on his Government for greater support given to women suffering domestic violence in the UK.
But during Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Brown said: "I'm very grateful that Rene Witherspoon is leading this campaign."
To compound matters he added: "She spoke movingly at the funeral of Anthony Minghella and I welcome her to the House today."
Rene Zellweger had spoken at the director's funeral earlier this year, but Reese Witherspoon had not.
His gaffe came in reply to Labour MP Lynda Waltho from Stourbridge, who asked the Prime Minister to congratulate Witherspoon in her role as Avon's global ambassador in its joint campaign against domestic violence with the charity Refuge.
Zellweger starred in Minghella's award-winning drama Cold Mountain, for which she won an Oscar, while Witherspoon is most famous for her roles in Walk The Line and Legally Blonde.
