Outdoor gallery for festival photographers

Lampposts are proving the perfect place to hang images in an outdoor photography exhibition.

The main streets of Armley, Bramley, Pudsey, Rodley and Farsley have become galleries showing new work by photographers Stephen Griffin, Andrew Gilliver, pictured, Rob Randerson and Jon Mawson.

Not all of the photos show the suburbs in the best possible light, with images of abandoned tyres and run-down buildings among the crop of pictures. Organisers of this year's I Love West Leeds Festival, who have commissioned the exhibition, are thrilled with the results. Festival director Jane Earnshaw said: "We've approached four local photographers and offered them a local shopping street each. They have all created new work in response to the commission and we will be hanging a total of 100 A4 photographs on lampposts throughout West Leeds."

Artist Kevin Hickson is also working with five primary schools creating galleries on streets around the schools. Details can be found at www.ilovewestleeds.co.uk
