Park events to mark diamond jubilee
Events to mark the 60th anniversary of the creation of Britain's national parks are being planned in the Peak District, including picnics and walks for families and free guided hikes.
The Peak District National Park, featuring views like this near Bakewell, was the first to be created under the National Parks and Access to Countryside Act 1949, with the Government drawing up its boundaries in 1951.
Since then, millions of people have enjoyed time in the beautiful natural surroundings, and the Peak Park Authority said it wanted to help people celebrate the diamond anniversary.
The week of events coincides with National Parks Week, which runs from July 27 to August 2. For more details call 01629 816558.
