Piano prepared for a genius
John Dunford, director of music at Ashville College in Harrogate, cleaning the 1951 Steinway Grand Piano that will be used in a recital by Julian Saphir.
The Harrogate musician, dubbed "a genius at work" by the London Arts Society, will perform an inaugural concert at the college on Friday.
Mr Saphir, a talented recitalist and piano teacher, is giving a recital using Ashville's magnificent Steinway in the school's Soothill Hall, in Green Lane, Harrogate. Mr Saphir, who began playing the piano when he was just four, will perform a range of music from Beethoven and Rachmaninov, to Tan Dun, Earl Wild and Liszt.
College Music Director John Dunford said: "It is a great privilege to have such an inspiring local pianist perform at Ashville and for him to use our Steinway Concert Grand, which many have commented is a pleasure to play.
"Julian is known for his extraordinary diversity as a soloist, which can be seen in the programme he has created for us. It promises be to a truly entertaining evening for all."
Tickets for the event, which starts at 7.30pm, are available on the door – 5 for adults, under 18s go free. For more details call Ashville College on 01423 566358.
