Police go undercover to seize 'boy racer' cars
RECKLESS "boy racers" who use Bradford's Worth Valley like a racetrack have been warned that they will have their cars seized.
Police have taken delivery of a new unmarked police car for undercover patrolling in the Bingley and Worth Valley area.
Anyone driving too fast, or have music blaring out, face having their vehicles seized.
Officers have begun using the new unmarked vehicle following information from residents and council members about drivers causing annoyance and also worrying residents through fast driving and playing loud music.
Parish councils have also raised concerns about younger drivers travelling in convoys of cars with loud exhausts which cause unnecessary noise in rural areas.
Other police action against bad driving has seen speed watches in Eccleshill, Bradford, and warning letters to drivers caught speeding in north Bradford.
Officers in Keighley also took a portable DVD player to the streets to show footage to drivers of the consequences of not wearing a seatbelt.
Sergeant Mark Wheeler of the Worth Valley neighbourhood policing team said: "There are specific powers to seize vehicles being used in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance and over the next few months we will be clamping down on those drivers causing such annoyance to residents.
"The message is simple, if you cause annoyance with your vehicle in the area then be prepared to have it seized by the police.
"We ask anyone with information regarding specific vehicles causing a nuisance to make contact with us so that we can actively target these offenders.
"Anyone who has information about anti-social driving should contact the Bingley Neighbourhood Police Team on 01274 475331 or hanpt3@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk," he added.
