Prince dons his finery and becomes Knight
Prince Harry and Kate Middleton looked on with merriment yesterday as a sheepish-looking Prince William became a Royal Knight of the Garter.
William was officially appointed to the most senior British order of chivalry, founded in 1348 by Edward III, at a ceremony in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Wearing the Order's full regalia of an ostrich plumed hat and velvet robes, he prompted laughter among some Royal spectators.
During the 45-minute church service, which followed a procession drawing about 7,000 onlookers, the Queen formally installed her grandson as the 1,000th Knight in the Register.
Earlier, his father, the Prince of Wales, and grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, had accompanied him at an investiture in the castle's Throne Room, where the Queen presented him with the regalia including a blue garter, sash, robe and star.
