Proposal for two huge wind turbines rejected

AN attempt to site two huge wind turbines on the Bolton Abbey estate has been refused by Craven Council.

Yorkshire Water wanted removing four existing wind turbines – which are 41.5m high – from the Chelker Reservoir site above Addingham, near Ilkley, and install two 125m wind turbines.

It is not expected to appeal against the council's planning committee's decision.

The site is about 2.5 kilometres from historic Bolton Abbey and the proposal sparked fierce opposition.

Councillor Meriel Curtis, chairman of Draughton Parish Council, which opposed the development, said: "These huge machines would have been completely inappropriate on this small site."

A Yorkshire Water spokesman said the company would look at its options regarding renewable energy generation at the site.
