Pub's own ales served after microbrewery reinstated

A pub owner has reinstated a microbrewery in the cellar of his Leeds pub.

Greg Wright, owner of the Fox and Newt in Burley Road, is now brewing traditional cask ales from the microbrewery, which is believed to be the only one of its kind in the local area.

Reinstating the brewery, which has taken six months, had been at the forefront of Mr Wright's mind since he took over the watering hole 12 months ago.

The fine ales are now being served, by experienced licensees Jerry and Patricia Lyons, and have proved so popular that the owner plans to serve them across Yorkshire, already stocking them in his other pub, The Old Ship Inn at Brighouse.

Mr Wright sought the best advice for his new venture, employing a well-known, award- winning local brewer to act as a consultant and ensuring that the ales are brewed by a traditional "full mash" method.

The pub has a strong following from real ales fans and last month received recognition from CAMRA, the campaign for real ale.

It was awarded Pub of the Season for the Leeds area, and also Brew of the Moment for its Rutland Ale.
