Public to get say on plans to promote green building
ECO-FRIENDLY technology will have to be incorporated into all major developments in a North Yorkshire district under new planning rules.
Hambleton District Council is due to adopt a new strategy to promote green technology such as rainwater harvesting and solar panels and to ensure it is incorporated in buildings in major new developments.
A draft document outlines new guidance which is to be issued to land owners and developers, and will also be used by council officers when they are dealing with planning applications.
It is hoped that the new planning rules will ensure sustainable buildings are built to help tackle environmental issues such as climate change and the excessive use of natural resources.
The planning guidance, part of a national Government drive to encourage eco-friendly construction, will promote new buildings that incorporate renewable energy.
A public meeting is being held next month when officers will be available to discuss the proposals. It will be held on Wednesday, October 8, at 2pm at the Civic Centre in Northallerton.
The document will be available on www.hambleton. gov.uk as well as at district council offices in Northallerton, Stokesley and Easingwold and at local libraries.
The public will be able to comment before Friday, October 31. An questionnaire can be downloaded from the website and emailed to planning. policy@hambleton.gov.uk
