Pupils get charity work experience

A PARTNERSHIP between an independent school and a charity which helps homeless people to find jobs will see several pupils who are studying business and enterprise help workers identify new opportunities.

Sixth former Richard Achahboun is the first student to take up a week-long work experience placement at Aspire Sheffield, which is based in the Hillsborough area of the city.

Aspire general manager Dave Metcalfe said he was delighted that Birkdale was introducing its pupils to the charity's work and said it brought two aspects of the social spectrum together.

He added: "I think we can both gain something from this bond and we are very keen to strengthen our links with the school. Richard is our first work experience student and its been refreshing for us because he does offer a fresh perspective."

Richard said: "This is a very rewarding challenge for me and I am looking forward to getting really involved."

Aspire has packing and mailing contracts with several large Sheffield firms, including solicitors Irwin Mitchell, Sheffield's Hallam University and Veolia Environmental Services.
