Ready-filled wine glasses set to be a hit at concerts

Wine lovers who can't face pouring their own drinks will soon be able to buy ready-filled plastic glasses.

The pre-filled foil sealed container called the Tulipa will launch in Britain this summer.

It was designed for caterers who serve wine at outdoor events such as concerts.

The pre-filled plastic glasses will cut service time and breakages, according to Al Fresco Wines which created them.

Each Tulipa is filled with wine in Britain and then sealed with foil to keep the drink fresh.

The plastic glasses will initially be available filled with Shiraz and Chardonnay wines from southern Australia plus a Californian ros under the Trencherman brand. Twin packs of the Tulipas are set to go on sale in stores in about three months, priced at 3.75 a pair.

Al Fresco invested some 500,000 developing plastic wine glasses for picnic and festival lovers, according to trade magazine The Grocer.

Al Fresco commercial director James Nash said the plastic pre-filled wine glasses would cut down on queues and wine spills at busy events.

"The Tulipa will help wine lovers to enjoy

wine anywhere that glass is not welcome and helps retailers to match wine with a greater range of drinking opportunities," he said.

The firm hopes other well-known wine brands will also use the Tulipa for their own products.
