Rescued Canadian trolleybus powers up
A TROLLEYBUS which last plied the streets of a Canadian city hits the road in the region this weekend.
Lincolnshire's Trolleybus Museum raised several thousand pounds to ship over the Edmonton trolleybus when the fleet was scrapped.
The number 189 trolleybus, which has the same slanted windows as classic North American Greyhound buses, will be the main attraction at their forthcoming open weekend.
The bus will make circuits of the former airfield at Sandtoft, along with 1950s and 1960s British models.
Commercial director Aiden Proctor said the museum began negotiations after the trolleybus was suddenly withdrawal from service last May.
He said. "It was a very quick decision and it all ended within a couple of months.
"They gifted us the bus and it cost us a couple of thousand to get it over here.
"The bus is the main attraction this weekend but we also have the historic 50s and 60s British trolleybuses for people wanting to take a trip down memory lane."
As well as the bus, the open weekend will feature attractions including period shop windows displays, a 1950s-style
pre-fab bungalow, a trolleybus driving simulator; children's play area and vintage bicycle collection.
The Trolleybus Museum is just off Junction 2 of the M180 in North Lincolnshire, on the Belton road at Sandtoft.
Admission – which include unlimited free rides on the trolleybuses and buses – costs 5 for adults, 4 for senior citizens and 3 for concessions. Alternatively, a family ticket is available for two adults and up to four concessions for 15. Proceeds from tickets go to the running of the museum.
