Research into town's teenage drinking
AN inquiry is taking place into the extent of underage drinking in Barnsley and the effect it is having on teenagers' health.
Barnsley Council's children's services scrutiny commission is seeking information from individuals and organisations about when, where and why youngsters are drinking, how much they are drinking and the kind of behaviour underage drinking leads to.
Councillors want to know about the impact drinking has on education and health, and the relationship alcohol has with anti-social behaviour, crime and drug abuse.
People who wish to submit information to the councillors should do so by Friday, January 16 to the Scrutiny Commission Office, Borough Secretary's Department, Barnsley MBC, Town Hall, Barnsley, S70 2TA or email scrutiny@barnsley.gov.uk
Another survey is asking people in Sheffield for their views on council services.
Independent researcher BMG is contacting around 3,000 people across the city to take part in the survey during December and January. Sheffield Council says will help it to develop services.
Councillor Simon Clement Jones said: "We are committed to listening to and acting on the opinions of local Sheffield people. So we're getting in touch with residents to ask them what they think of council services and their experiences of contacting the council.
"We're also interested in the views of people who've not been in touch with us recently, because their opinions on what they would expect from us are incredibly important to us too.
"We want to make the council much more customer-focused.
"If you are asked to participate in this survey, please do so."
The answers given in the survey will be anonymous and will not be used for any other purpose. The researchers will have official identification and a copy of an official letter from the council.
Anyone worried about the questions in the survey or the identity of the caller should call BMG on 0800 358 0337 or the council on 0114 272 6444.
