Residents march against blight of violence
Neighbours of a Sheffield teenager who was shot dead marched into the city centre at the weekend to speak out against gun and knife crime.
The Burngreave area of Sheffield made national headlines last October after 16-year-old Jonathan Matondo was gunned down in a playground.
Organisers of Saturday's rally said it was held to show that people living in the area are against gun and knife crime and other "negative influences".
The Burngreave Bouncing Back march was led by Pastor Andrew Rashford-Hewitt, from the area's Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He hoped the move would change people's perceptions of the area and encourage young people to stay away from violent crime.
The route took residents through Scott Road and Osgathorpe, both scenes of violent incidents in which people have been killed, and then on to Nottingham Cliff Park, where Jonathan was shot
dead.
The marchers then headed into the city centre and gathered at the steps outside Sheffield Town Hall.
Negus Nelson, 18, is due stand trial for Jonathan's murder later this year.
