Residents may get shares in wind farm
John Roberts RESIDENTS are to be given the chance to buy shares in a wind farm earmarked for a moor in Yorkshire.
Coronation Power is planning to create five 410ft high turbines on Todmorden Moor capable of generating enough electricity for 10,000 homes.
The 10m development has attracted opposition from councillors including former Mayor of Calderdale Coun Olwen Jennings, and Todmorden Coun Ruth Gold-thorpe, who claim that it would harm the landscape.
Now a project is being proposed to allow residents to profit from the proposed wind farm.
Microgeneration Yorkshire, which promotes renewable energy projects, has held talks with Coronation Power about allowing community involvement in the scheme.
The London-based company has indicated that it will make one of the five turbines available for the public to buy, if the wind farm is given planning permission.
An application is expected to be submitted to Calderdale Council before Christmas.
A public meeting is to be held in Todmorden next week in order to allow the town's residents to find out more about becoming shareholders in one of the wind turbines.
It will take place at Todmorden Town Hall on Wednesday next week from 7pm to 9pm.
