Residents urged to extend vision for town
RESIDENTS of Boroughbridge and the Lower Ure Valley are being asked for their views on what should be the priority for improvements to the area over the next five years.
Yore Vision, which was launched in 2002 to deliver a 25-year plan to regenerate the town, is about to enter its second phase and is seeking views on how it should proceed.
Consultations carried out in 2002 identified a number of priority projects. They included a mobile cinema, Ure Walks Through Time, Great Ouseburn village hall improvements and the recently held community Messiah event.
Improving the Offer, a programme to improve the economic and physical fabric of Boroughbridge, which was supported by Yorkshire Forward, Harrogate Council, Boroughbridge Town Council and Boroughbridge Chamber of Trade, is nearing completion.
It included property improvement grants for town centre businesses and training courses for businesses and the voluntary/community sector. The programme also includes the development of a new community shared space and tree planting.
A Yore Vision exhibition will be held in Boroughbridge Library on Saturday, March 21, between 10am and 4pm. Its chairman, Keith Ramsay, said: "I do hope that people will come along and help us to shape plans just as they did in 2002.
"As well as staff from Harrogate Borough Council's Economic Development Unit, other members of Yore Vision will be present to discuss issues.
"There will be a display of the achievements to date, but the most important section will focus on possible projects and priorities for this second phase."
Early ideas include: refurbishment of Boroughbridge Leisure Centre, community renewable energy projects and the creation of a multi-purpose community facility.
