See it on video: Beverley Minster restored

Expert glaziers are putting the finishing touches to the first part of a restoration project at Beverley Minster to ensure the panels on the Great West Window are preserved for future generations.

The York Glaziers' Trust is refitting four of the larger panels after they were removed for delicate restoration work at its studio in York. The trust carried out a survey of the Minster's windows two years ago and found the Great West Window to be in most need of repair.

Senior conservator Nick Teed, said: "They were in such a vulnerable condition because of the westerly winds pushing and pulling at the panels causing fixings to break. It was almost an emergency, one of the panels was in grave danger of falling out."

The 75ft window was made between 1850 and 1860 and the panels depict scenes of early Christianity in Northumbria.
