Show crowd to become jungle
EVERY visitor to the show will be represented by a tree after Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate promised to plant an equal number in the Amazon rainforest, in Peru – about 120,000.
It is part of their Yorkshire Rainforest Project. They have joined forces with the Rainforest Foundation UK to protect an area the size of the Yorkshire Dales and have planted three million trees since 1990.
Now they are planting in Peru where the forests are threatened by logging, oil and mineral exploration but where the Yorkshire firm of tea and coffee blenders have helped local people gain legal rights to their land.
Deforestation is also a serious contributor to climate change.
