Sixty readers, one leader of the opposition... here's what happened
YORKSHIRE Post readers had a unique opportunity to question Tory leader David Cameron today about his party's policies and how his political priorities will impact upon their lives.
Mr Cameron visited Leeds to attend a special Question Time-style event, called Sixty Against One, hosted by this newspaper.
No issue was off limits: schools, NHS, crime, immigration, taxation, the rural economy and how the Conservatives intend to tackle Yorkshire-specific problems such as this region's escalating transport crisis at a time of climate change.
Sixty voters representing a cross-section of Yorkshire life were invited to the discussion to air their views.
Among the headlines: Pensioners could be saved from having to sell their home to pay for residential care under a scheme being considered by the Tories.
Mr Cameron said forcing people who do not qualify for free places in care homes to finance it by losing their own house was "cruel", but ruled out giving everyone a free care place.
Instead people who save enough to pay for one or two years' care could be freed from any further costs under an American scheme which the Tories have been looking at as Mr Cameron pledged to address the "unfairness" with firm proposals before the next election.
