Success for apprenticeships showcase
ORGANISERS of an event for students and parents to get more information about options after school has been hailed a success after more than 8,000 people attended.
The Skills Yorkshire and Humber event was held at Sheffield Arena, and offered information on the new National Apprenticeships Service (NAS) which was formed last April.
Students were able to meet other young people who had already taken up places on apprenticeships and take part in interactive demonstrations of jobs like building and floristry.
The event was sponsored by the NAS and supported by the Learning and Skills Council, and was also visited by Doncaster MP and Minister for Yorkshire Rosie Winterton.
Miss Winterton said: "As Regional Minister, promoting and encouraging the development of skills has always been one of my top priorities. It is vital for economic growth that businesses have staff with the right training and abilities.
"That's why I am delighted to meet young apprentices who clearly have the commitment and enthusiasm to gain the skills to improve their job prospects and give them a stronger sense of direction."
