'Talent' winner special guest at park event
TALENTED street dancer George Sampson was the special guest at yesterday's A World Together event in Dewsbury's Crow Nest Park.
The winner of the 2009 Britain's Got Talent show helped to judge the local talent at the Dewsbury's Got Talent final.
He also entertained the crowds with a demonstration of the skills that won him the TV talent show and helped build a fan base from seven-year-old girls to grandmothers.
Before appearing on the show he had busked on the street to earn money for dance lessons.
Now he does not have to worry so much about money as TV talent judge Simon Cowell has paid for him to have a private tutoring while he's on the road.
Meanwhile, chart acts Ironik and The Yeah You's are to join McFly at Kirklees Party in the Park in Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury on Sunday, August 23.
Excitement about the free event has been building since McFly were announced as the headline act at the start of this month.
Ironik (formerly DJ Ironik) has been on the music scene since he was 13, beginning his career as a club DJ. In the past year he has made a big impression on the music scene with hit singles Stay with Me and Tiny Dancer featuring Elton John and Chipmunk, which charted at number 3 in May.
The Yeah You's are a British pop duo who have been widely tipped for success and will be releasing their debut album this summer.
Councillor Kath Pinnock, deputy leader of Kirklees Council, said: "Our McFly announcement was met with lots of excitement; people are looking forward to coming to Dewsbury to see them and enjoy the show with their family and friends. I'm sure that these further announcements will go down well and demonstrate that this is an event not to be missed."
Party in the Park is a free non-ticketed event, which is part of a weekend of live music in Crow Nest Park.
The day before, Saturday August 22, is Songs in the Park, which features touring show Beyond the Barricade, a performance of the greatest hits from West End musicals.
Crow Nest Park is a five minute walk from Dewsbury train station; a walking route will be signposted. There will be no car parking around the park and so Kirklees Council is advising that people get to the concert on foot or catch one of the free shuttle buses that will run from the railway station.
Timings of bands and further details will be released nearer the time.
