Taste of Wensleydale for visitors to UK's biggest food festival

THE producers of real Wensleydale cheese are promoting their delicious product at the UK's biggest food and drink festival next week.

The International Food and Drink Event (IFE) takes place in London between March 18 and 21 and Hawes Creamery will be promoting its cheeses, in particular, Real Yorkshire Wensleydale and Cranberry.

The Wensleydale Creamery has put forward an application for Protected Designation of Origin status to legally ensure that it is the only producer of Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese in the world. If granted, it means that no other manufacturer would be able to make a cheese and call it Real Yorkshire Wensleydale.

The application, which is being supported by the Yorkshire Post's Uniquely Yorkshire campaign, has just undergone a 12-week consultation. The Yorkshire Post handed a petition of more than 14,000 signatures backing the campaign to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
