The play's the thing to catch attention in Hull schools
All the world's a stage, the bard once wrote, and now professional actors will be taking the world of Shakespeare into classrooms of every secondary school in Hull.
The aim is to bring Shakespeare to life for thousands of children and remind them of the beauty of his prose and verse rather than leaving pupils sitting hunched over text books.
All 14 secondary schools in Hull will benefit from drama workshops which will be taking place in their classrooms over the next three weeks involving professional performers.
MOPA Theatre Company, a leading UK Shakespeare theatre company based in Hertfordshire, has been awarded the 16,000 contract by Hull Council to provide Shakespeare sessions to every secondary school in the city.
Throughout the rest of this month and March MOPA will bring Shakespeare to life for more than 4,000 pupils.
"Their unique approach brings professional actors and stunning sets into schools to provoke the young people's imaginations and inspire them to learn about language," a council spokesman said.
Louise Briggs, English advisor to Hull Council, said: "MOPA's sessions are unique, like nothing we'd ever seen before, they will certainly help our students better understand the play and the characters involved."
MOPA Theatre Company's marketing manager Clair Thomas added: "We're delighted that Hull City Council have chosen us to be part of such an exciting project and look forward to making a difference in these pupils lives."
