Travellers defy barriers as they descend again on a company's car park
A BUSINESS which spent thousands of pounds to keep out intruders is now facing another hefty bill after a group of travellers set up camp in the company car park.
Acorn Stairlifts in Steeton, near Keighley, spent around 3,500 on fences earlier this year following a previous illegal encampment.
The company had placed large boulders in the way of intruders but these were simply moved aside last time.
On Sunday evening around 20 caravans and a similar number of vans set up camp in a car park at the Millennium Business Park which is normally used by around half of Acorn Stairlift's 400 workers.
This morning none of the car-driving staff could use the car park, which is a short walk from the main factory and office.
Bosses at the firm, which is one of Keighley's largest private employers, said the car park's metal gates had been damaged around the time the travellers arrived.
"They lifted the gate off one of the supports by breaking the bolts," said a company spokeperson who asked not to be named.
In May travellers parked on land near the company's headquarters and, because of the large piles of household rubbish that was left behind, the company decided to spend thousands of pounds on fences to keep out any future intruders.
