Trip down memory lane for children of the Seventies

THE sights and sounds of the 1970s are being celebrated in an exhibition opening today at Leeds City Museum.

The exhibition takes the form of a walk back through time, allowing visitors to travel through a house in 1970s Leeds and experience the music and fashions of that eventful era.

Featuring colourful and questionable wallpaper and fashions, the exhibition begins with a living room before passing through a bedroom as well as a kitchen complete with genuine lime green fitted units leading to the garden area.

An appeal for 1970s photos yielded a good response, with those being put on display including an image of a young girl drinking from the FA Cup after Leeds United’s famous triumph over Arsenal at Wembley in May 1972.

The music includes The Carpenters, the Bee Gees, Carly Simon and The Commodores.

Moving into the bedroom area the music changes to include Pink Floyd, Led Zepellin, the Sex Pistols, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, The Clash, David Bowie, the Bay City Rollers, ABBA and Blondie.

Curator Helen Langwick said: “The response to the appeal for photos has been great so we’d like to thank everyone who sent them.”

Silver 70s runs until Thursday April 22. Admission is free.
