Unions call for BASF talks to save jobs
UNION leaders have today called for urgent talks with the owners of a West Yorkshire chemical plant where 150 jobs are being axed.
The GMB said workers at the BASF site in Bradford were "shocked" by an announcement from its German owners.
More than 800 people work at the Low Moor site of Ciba which was bought by BASF, in April. The 150 cuts include 60 job losses already announced by Ciba.
The union said it feared some research work would be moved to Germany, warning it would "rip the heart" out of the plant.
Regional officer Tim Roche said: "We need urgent discussions with BASF to find out what their plans are for this site now that they seem to be moving key jobs to Germany."
