University to host international conference
DESIGN experts will gather at a conference at Sheffield Hallam University next week.
The university will welcome more than 200 design and business experts, leading academics and designers from as far afield as South America, Japan, Australia, Canada and Singapore to the Design Research Society conference.
After Sheffield, the conference will move to Montreal and then on to Bangkok.
Professor Chris Rust, head of the art and design research centre at Sheffield Hallam University, said it was delighted to be hosting the conference.
"Art and design courses at the university have expanded rapidly in recent years, with the student intake for design doubling in size during the last four years.
"The vibrant creative culture in Sheffield has a huge part to play in the city's growth and regeneration," he added.
The conference, which runs from July 16 to 19, is entitled Undisciplined.
Speakers include Steve Portigal, founder of San Francisco company Portigal Consulting; Alan Blackwell, Cambridge University's expert in interdisciplinary design and Christoph Zellweger, who is an internationally-acclaimed Swiss jewellery designer.
