Victoria reigns at velodrome

There were celebrations for the women cyclists too when Victoria Pendleton, right, also scooped gold in the women's sprint, with victory against Australia's Anna Meares at the Laoshan Velodrome.

She missed out on a medal at Athens, and nearly gave up competing internationally because of the disappointment.

Pendleton told the BBC: "It doesn't feel real yet.

"Everything went to plan but after the success of the team I felt it might be too much to ask.

"I couldn't expect anything more – it's a dream scenario."
