THE Asda Foundation was named today as the principal sponsor of next year’s fundraising in Jane Tomlinson’s name.

Next year’s Leeds 10-kilometre event has already been scheduled for Sunday July 8. It will be followed by other events in Hull and York.

All will be sponsored by the charitable arm of the Asda supermarket chain.

Paralympic hopeful Hannah Cockcroft joined Mike Tomlinson for today’s announcement.

Hannah, a double world champion wheelchair racer, has strongly supported past events, taking part in both the Leeds and York 10Ks.

As a Paralympic hopeful, she is backing the campaign and helping to promote the Run For All series.

As the Olympics comes to London next summer, the fundraisers will be encouraging people to follow in Jane’s footsteps to achieve their personal goals, whether they run, walk, wheel, jog or even volunteer.

Mr Tomlinson said: “Next year promises to be a great summer of sport and we hope everyone joins the challenge to run for their own personal gold whether that be to complete their first run, their fastest time or most money raised.”

Asda’s chief operating officer Judith McKenna said: “Asda is extremely proud to be supporting the 10k series and all the charities that benefit from the runs.”

Over the past six years in Leeds alone just under 50,000 runners, walkers, joggers have taken to the city’s streets to take part in the county’s largest 10K run. The appeal has raised about £2.5 for charities that include the Martin House children’s hospice, Macmillan, Leeds Children’s Hospital, Yorkshire Cancer Research and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Entry for the runs in Leeds, Hull and York costs £20.12 each, but only for a limited time. Season tickets guaranteeing places in all three runs in 2012 are currently available for £50.

The Yorkshire Post is a media partner in the Leeds 10k.

Details of many of next year’s events – together with registration forms – have already been posted online, at www.runforall.com.
