Vikings battle for York all over again

They fought pitched battles on the streets at the weekend, as York turned back the clock 1,100 years.

The fighting marked a dramatic conclusion to the city's week-long Jorvik Viking Festival.

Hundreds gathered at the Eye of York to watch the spectacle of hordes of soldiers simulating battle scenes, backed by light and sound show which included the traditional burning of a Viking boat.
