Vouchers offering 'gift of learning' go on sale
NEW vouchers to give "the gift of learning" have gone on sale in Yorkshire.
The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) yesterday launched a scheme to enable people for the first time to buy gift vouchers towards the cost of further education courses.
The pilot project was launched at nine colleges across England, including York College, to promote further education courses as "the perfect gift" for friends and family and to help loved ones learn new skills.
Research commissioned by DIUS found over half the people surveyed would like to receive a gift voucher for a training course as a present.
The vouchers, available in 50 denominations, can be used to enrol on a variety of courses at participating colleges and are redeemable in the 2007-8 academic year.
Each voucher can cover the full course cost or a contribution towards it and vouchers are available from York College's finance desk or from Future Prospects in Swinegate, York.
