Waste firm lodges wind farm plans
THE firm that handles much of the region's waste is planning to install wind turbines on three landfill sites in the East Riding.
The largest two, standing 125m tall, would be at Waste Recycling Group's mothballed site at Carnaby, near Bridlington.
Two others, measuring 87m, are earmarked for WRG's closed rubbish tip at Catwick, with two more at the Gallymoor landfill site, Holme upon Spalding Moor.
WRG is holding a public exhibition about the Catwick proposals on July 22. It says the two turbines would generate enough renewable energy to power 1,000 homes.
One exhibition is being held from 1pm to 8pm on July 22 at Brandesburton Parish Hall, Catwick Lane, Brandesburton.
Another – about the Gallymoor proposals – takes place the following day at Holme upon Spalding Moor Village Hall, also between 1pm and 8pm.
The East Riding has taken the brunt of wind farm applications in Yorkshire, with several farms already built and many others on the way. The last Government backed all the appeals made by developers against refusal of planning permission by the East Riding Council.
