Wildlife artist certain to make a Lasting Impression at Shandy Hall
ONE of the country's finest wildlife artists – who stands up for nature against Man's exploitation of the environment – has brought his latest world-class collection of wooden engravings to York.
Colin See-Paynton is widely regarded as Britain's leading wood engraver and his work has been snapped up by private and public collections around the world.
He has also travelled with the Artists for Nature Foundation to the Pyrenees and to Alaska to record and highlight through his art the threat to wildlife caused by the plundering of natural resources.
Now his latest exhibition, called Lasting Impressions, can be seen at Shandy Hall, Coxwold, York. Organisers say the collection of wood engravings confirms Mr See-Paynton's reputation as one of the UK's finest wildlife artists.
Focusing largely on birds, he had made a name for himself by weaving remarkably intricate designs into each engraving, which often feature subjects in a watery setting.
More than 40 engravings can be seen in the gallery along with a taster of nine more in Ken Spelman Bookshop at 70, Micklegate, York. The exhibition is open daily (except Saturday) from 11am - 4.30pm until August 21. All works are for sale and entrance is free.
