Witnesses plea after arson attacks
POLICE in Wakefield are appealing for witnesses following arson attacks on cars in the Lupset area.
The first was early on Sunday, June 7, in Aysgarth Drive, Lupset, when witnesses saw a man walk past a black Fiat Punto outside a house and throw what was believed to be petrol on the bonnet. He lit it and then left the area, walking towards Broadway. The car was destroyed.
The second fire was on June 27 at about midnight in Broadway in Lupset. A Fiat Punto was parked on a drive where it was set alight. It is believed that petrol was thrown onto or into the vehicle. A fence and the rear end of a camper van were badly damaged.
There were no witnesses to this incident. No one was injured.
The third fire was at around 11.30pm on June 30 in Townley Road, Lupset. A Vauxhall Astra was parked on the street when it was set on fire, again it is believed that petrol was thrown on or in the car. The vehicle was destroyed. No one was injured.
PC Toni Darroch, of Wakefield Central Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We are linking all three incidents and believe that those responsible live in the area where the crimes took place. If anyone has any information that could help us please do get in touch." PC Darroch can be contacted on 01924 293277.
