Yorkshire peer to face dangerous driving charge

YORKSHIRE peer Lord Ahmed is to appear in court charged with dangerous driving after a Christmas Day crash which left a driver dead.

The 51-year-old, who became Britain's first Muslim peer in 1998, was driving his gold Jaguar along the M1 when he collided with an Audi that had broken down in the fast lane of the southbound carriageway, near Rotherham.

The car's driver, Slovakian 28-year-old Martyn Gombar, was killed in the impact.

South Yorkshire Police today confirmed Lord Ahmed would appear before magistrates in Sheffield on a "date to be fixed".
