Yorkshire 'third for wealth'
London, Hampshire and... Yorkshire have the greatest concentration of wealthy people in the UK, according to a "wealth map" published today.
The capital is home to 13 per cent of the wealthiest individ-uals in the country, while eight per cent live in Hampshire.
But areas traditionally seen as less affluent have also made it into the map's top 10, with Yorkshire in third place at 6.1 per cent and Lancashire in sixth (3.8 per cent) behind home counties Surrey (5.8 per cent) and Middlesex (4.8 per cent).
Cheshire, famed for being home to sports stars, is in 11th position with 2.7 per cent of the nation's wealthiest people.
Two Scottish counties make it into the top 20 in the survey by Barclays Wealth Insights of the richest five per cent of the population – who have more than 100,000 in investable assets.
Midlothian is ranked 13th, with 2.6 per cent of the wealthy and Dunbarton 18th with 2.1 per cent.
The top two postcode areas for wealthy people were London's south west (SW) and north west (NW), followed by GU (Hampshire), KT (Surrey) and EH (Midlothian).
But while the survey shows the UK is on course to have the highest concentration of wealthy households among the G7 leading industrial countries in 10 years' time, many of the super-rich are looking to move abroad (14 per cent of those questioned) or buy second homes overseas (46 per cent).
