You have e-mail – but it's for the wrong voice
A doctor was sent confidential voiceover scripts for a top TV show and Hollywood blockbusters after a bizarre e-mail mix-up.
Peter Dickson, of Bingley, West Yorkshire, was amazed to see offers of high-profile TV and film work flooding into his personal e-mail account complete with scripts of The X-Factor, Superman: The Movie and High School Musical Three and requests for him to send tapes of his voice for charity auctions.
The 57-year-old medic jokingly replied that he was more used to treating patients than providing the soundtrack to various shows but was astonished to receive further mails from X-Factor asking him to grandly announce "Attention X-Factor Fans".
Dr Dickson then realised that he was accidentally being sent a deluge of offers meant for professional voiceover artist Peter Dickson – the instantly recognisable deep voice who introduces the Saturday evening talent show and countless movie trailers.
Peter Dickson laughed off the mix-up and even joked about swapping jobs.
The 50-year-old voiceover artist, who is based in London, said: "Maybe we could do a job swap – he's welcome to mine and I could operate on patients. I can see myself performing a tonsil operation just before breakfast. I'm not sure how he would get on with the voiceover work, it can be very visceral. But there is only one Peter Dickson."
The error occurred when the voiceover artist's agent mistakenly sent the offers to the doctor's address, which is similar.
Dr Dickson, who is medical director for Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust, said: "I was obviously completely baffled but mainly I found it quite funny, and after looking online I realised I must have been confused with the other Peter Dickson."
The doctor, who is chairman of Bingley Little Theatre, said he has always dreamed of a theatrical career and could not resist going through the scripts.
"I have now got a sore throat from trying to do his voice and do the dramatic voiceovers that the real Peter Dickson does," he said.
