Young patients design stained glass windows for restored bandstand
STAINED glass windows designed by young patients at The Children's Hospital in Sheffield have been installed in the restored bandstand at Weston Park.
The children designed the panels during workshops with artist Natasha Sorrell and the council's parks and countryside staff last year. They are themed around music and wildlife and Ms Sorrell produced the finished windows.
She said: "It was a real pleasure to spend time with the children at The Children's Hospital.
"They showed enormous enthusiasm for the Weston Park bandstand restoration project and came up with some lovely ideas for the stained glass.
"Our workshops resulted in combining fresh, modern designs with traditional stained glass crafting techniques which worked really well."
The workshops took place in conjunction with the Arts for Health programme, which is funded by The Children's Hospital Charity and aims to improve patients' stays in hospital through fun art activities.
Arts for Health co-ordinator Cat Powell said: "It was fantastic that the park offered our patients the opportunity to get involved in the design of the new window panels and the children really enjoyed their workshops."
Weston Park's 2.7m restoration project has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
