Youth, 17, killed friend with punch in drunken row

A TEENAGER who killed a friend with a single punch during a night out has been given a 10-month training and detention order.

Hull Crown Court heard Adam Stilgoe, 17, had a "rather odd" relationship with gay nurse Willieheado Patrimonio, 53, whom he killed during a drunken argument.

The pair, who met in autumn last year, had been drinking in Hull city centre on April 27 when they had an altercation outside a Starbucks coffee bar in Jameson Street.

Although Mr Patrimonio, who was also known as Tan or Todd, was openly homosexual, there was nothing to suggest the pair were anything other than friends.

They had each drunk about eight pints of lager in Masters Bar, Jameson Street, over a four-hour period when Mr Patrimonio was asked to leave after they were heard arguing.

Stilgoe, of Ganstead Lane, Hull, also left and a short time later, at about 8.30pm, an off-duty policewoman saw them walking towards her.

She heard Mr Patrimonio say to the teenager in a humorous manner ,"I'm going to have you."

The constable heard Stilgoe reply "bent ****", which she said was delivered in a "loud but non-aggressive" tone.

The events that led to the fatal blow were captured on closed circuit TV.

Stilgoe pushed over the older man, who is seen picking things up and putting them in a shoulder bag before getting to his feet.

Mr Patrimonia walked towards Stilgoe from about eight paces away and either slapped or punched him to the head.

Outlining the case against Stilgoe at a hearing last week, Nick Adlington, prosecuting, said: "It appears to be a hard blow. Stilgoe staggers but doesn't respond."

When Mr Patrimonio raised his hand again, Stilgoe "lashed out" and hit the older man in the middle of the face with his left hand. Mr Patrimonia went down "like falling timber".

Stilgoe walked off and Mr Patrimonio was left motionless on the ground.

A cyclist who stopped to help saw blood coming from an ear and wounds to the back of his head and lips.

He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he worked, but died on May 3 from a severe head injury, a skull fracture and a brain haemorrhage.

The court heard the nurse had suffered a head injury five years earlier and had been told after he was assaulted a year ago that another head injury could be fatal.

Rodney Ferm, for Stilgoe, said: "It's just an absolutely tragic case, tragic for both families.

"That one punch delivered with the non-dominant left hand could cause such an injury was just completely unforeseen by this young man."
