Youth theatre's special trip to Hull
The National Youth Music Theatre, which launched the careers of stars such as Jude Law, Matt Lucas and Sheridan Smith, will swap London for Hull this summer to take up residence at Hull Truck's new theatre.
Some 25 years after the original production, the company are to present Melvyn Bragg and Howard Goodall's great British musical The Hired Man, before giving a special performance at RADA as part of the Lord Mayor's Appeal. Set in the early 1900s, among a world of hiring fairs and trade union meetings, the musical examines the values of working-class life at the turning point in history just before the First World War.
For two weeks the talented young cast, recruited from Leeds to Cardiff, will work intensively with the Creative Team handpicked from the National Theatre to the West End.
A Hull Trust Theatre spokeswoman said: "The award-winning NYMT represents the very best in work with young people through musical theatre.
n National Youth Music Theatre will stage The Hired Man at Hull Truck August 5 to 8. For tickets call Hull Truck's Box Office on 01482 323 638.
